TAKE OFF - INTERNATIONAL ARRANGEMENT COMPETITION

HELD BY WINDWERK – THE CENTRAL ALPS WIND MUSIC PROJECT
WINDWERK, the professional symphonic wind orchestra from Austria, is for the first time inviting arrangers, musicians and composers to enter an international arrangement competition.

CALL FOR ENTRIES

WINDWERK, the professional symphonic wind orchestra from Austria, is for the first time inviting arrangers, musicians and composers to enter an international arrangement competition. The aim is to create new and innovative scores and thus enrich the repertoire for concert bands. All styles are permitted; innovative ideas are positively encouraged.
Thomas Ludescher, initiator of this competition and artistic director of the WINDWERK orchestra, considers the playing of arrangements, instrumentations and musical adaptions to be an essential part of the wind orchestra scene alongside the performing of original compositions. „We believe that in addition to the countless composition contests, there is enormous potential for arrangements from the Renaissance to (non-European) folk music, to film, to musical theatre and on to modern music in all its diversity. The ‚garden of music is infinite‘.”

PROCESS
The competition is split into three phases.

Phase 1
Submission of the presentation by March 1, 2021.

Phase 2
Preselection of up to ten participants. The participants will be notified by May 1, 2021. The organizer is offering a free coaching session as a special service. The coaching will be provided by two international experts in composition and arrangement: Oliver Waespi (CH), Bert Appermont (B) and other.
The coaching consists of two elements:

  • The submission of the arrangement (if available)
  • The personal coaching session (approx. 1h) by appointment, online in English during June 2021.

Phase 3
Submission of finished arrangements by October 1, 2021.
